Monterey Pine Restoration Volunteer Project: The 3,000 Tree Initiative
Overview:
Five thousand years ago, a pine forest extended down the California coast from San Francisco to San Diego. Today, Cambria is one of only five native Monterey Pines habitats left.
Help restore some of the coastal Monterey Pine forests in Cambria by joining Greenspace – The Cambria Land Trust in planting 3,000 young pines.
Beginning in late April, at their Earth Day Festival, Greenspace enlisted 37 families, households, and three schools in the Cambria area to germinate over 3,000 Monterey Pine seeds. Since then, each of these groups have looked after the Monterey Pine seedlings, continuing to nurture them until they grow into young trees.
Become a stewardship traveler and make your travel experience along the Highway 1 Discovery Route more meaningful by volunteering to plant pines on State Park land, just north of San Simeon Creek Campground.
