San Simeon New Gateway Sign Ribbon Cutting
Pierre Rademaker, stands by the new gateway monument sign, which he designed. His original concept was first drafted in 1993. The completed sign, located on Highway 1, was unveiled in December 2017 with great fanfare.
San Simeon locals and officials gather at the sign’s ceremonious ribbon cutting. The monument alerts travelers on Highway 1 they’ve officially entered the famed seaside town. With scenic backdrops, the sign was strategically placed to encourage photos and social media posts.

The San Simeon sign was designed to stand out yet still be in harmony with the stunning surrounding landscape. The project was funded in part with a federal North Coast Scenic Byway grant secured by SLOCOG. The grant was matched by the San Simeon Chamber of Commerce, and proved essential in the funding.
