Piedras Blancas Light Station Hike-In Open House

The Piedras Blancas Light Station is hosting four Hike-In Open House events this summer. The first two free events are scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, and Wednesday, July 22, both from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Two more events are planned for Wednesday, August 12, and Wednesday, August 26, also from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Visitors can enjoy the scenery on an easy hike to the Piedras Blancas Light Station, where they can learn about the station’s history and local ecology while taking in the beauty of this Outstanding Natural Area.

Hikers can pack a picnic lunch and enjoy wandering the lighthouse grounds between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Docents and staff will be on hand to answer questions, and the gift shop will be open.

The hike starts at either the elephant seal viewing area parking lot 1.5 miles south of the light station or the parking lot at the vista point 1 mile to the north of the light station. Including the half-mile trail around the light station, the round-trip hike is 3 miles from the north and 4 miles from the south.

Entry is free, but the suggested donation of $5 per person helps with the restoration and maintenance of the light station.

No pets, no smoking, no bicycles, and no drones. Please stay on the trail.
